This maternity photography session took place on a bright spring morning at Nansidwell Beach in Falmouth, Cornwall. Surrounded by bluebells, wild garlic and cow parsley, we spent the morning exploring woodland paths, playing games and documenting a family preparing to welcome a new baby.
When people hear the words maternity photoshoot, they often imagine posed photographs focused entirely on the bump. But some of our favourite maternity sessions look a little different.
They feel more like family life.
For this session, we met on the woodland path that winds down towards Nansidwell Beach. Spring had arrived in full force. Bluebells lined the edges of the path, wild garlic filled the woods and fresh green leaves filtered the morning light overhead. Before long, the little one was leading the way.
There was balancing along fallen logs, jumping from tree stumps and stopping every few minutes to search for bugs hidden amongst the leaves. Every corner of the woods held something worth investigating.
The walk itself became part of the story.
One of the things we love most about outdoor family photography is that children don't need much encouragement to be themselves. Give them space to explore and the moments appear naturally.
As we made our way towards the beach, the focus shifted effortlessly between anticipation and everyday family life.A hand resting on a growing bump.
A cuddle on the woodland path.A toddler perched happily on top of mum's bump, carried high and close.
These small moments often say more about family life than any carefully posed photograph ever could.
That's what made this session feel so special.
The pregnancy was there, woven naturally through the photographs, but never separated from the family itself.
Because for many parents, this season isn't only about waiting for a new baby. It's also about soaking up the final weeks of life as it is now.
The woodland adventures, the bug hunts, the cuddles and the familiar rhythms that will soon make room for someone new.
By the time we reached the beach, the morning felt less like a photoshoot and more like a family adventure. Nansidwell Beach is one of our favourite locations for family and maternity photography in Falmouth. The woodland walk, seasonal wildflowers and quiet stretch of coastline offer plenty of space for children to explore while creating a beautiful backdrop for natural family photographs.
