This story of maternity and newborn photography in Cornwall is best told in more than one chapter.
We first met at Maenporth Beach for a maternity photography session. The long-awaited sunshine had arrived, the wind was moving through her hair and the shallow water was gathering around her feet.
There was a lightness to the morning. Sandy toes, salty air and the quiet anticipation of someone not yet here, but already deeply known.
A maternity session at Maenporth Beach
The beach gave us room to move slowly and follow what felt natural.
She walked through the shallows as the waves gently broke around her. At other moments, she stood still with her hands resting on her bump—the smallest space between the life she knew and the one about to begin.
Maternity photography does not need to feel overly posed or performative. It can simply be a way of recognising this particular version of you: your changing body, the waiting and the closeness that already exists.
These photographs held all of that. Warmth, strength and a sense of something quietly approaching.
Meeting again in the newborn days
A few weeks later, the landscape had changed.
This time, we met at home in Cornwall. The open beach was replaced by soft rooms, familiar surroundings and the close rhythm of life with a newborn.
The early days have their own sense of time. Slow mornings become long afternoons. Feeding, holding and resting begin to blend into one another. Tiny hands curl around fingers and it can feel difficult to know where one person ends and the other begins.
An at-home newborn photography session allows us to work within that rhythm. There is no need to pack everything up or make the day behave differently. We create space for feeding, settling and pauses, gently shaping the session around what you and your baby need.
Nothing has to be perfected. The home, the closeness and the way you naturally hold one another are already part of the story.
Two chapters of the same motherhood story
Photographing both maternity and newborn life creates something more complete than either session could hold alone.
The first chapter is anticipation: the changing shape of a body, hands resting on a bump and the feeling of waiting to meet someone.
The second is arrival: those same arms now holding a baby, the quiet intensity of the early days and a new relationship beginning to take shape.
Seen together, the photographs hold the transition between the two.
“I had both a maternity and newborn shoot with Annie and they really are just stunning. Thank you, Annie, for capturing such beautiful moments and memories.”
Booking both sessions together also allows the photographs to speak to one another. We can keep the approach and feeling connected while giving each chapter its own atmosphere. The result is not a rigidly matched set, but an honest record of change: before, after and the quiet thread joining them.
These stages pass quickly, even while you are living inside them. Creating photographs across both gives you a way to return—not only to how everything looked, but to how it felt.
