About Folkship
We’re Danny and Annie.
Photographers, parents and the people behind Folkship.
Together, we create thoughtfully crafted photography rooted in people, place and belonging, from families and motherhood to the independent makers whose work inspires us.
Why Folkship
A studio built around the things we care about.
Folkship brings together the things that matter most to us: people, creativity, Cornwall and time spent together.
As parents of three boys, we understand how quickly family life changes—and how much the photographs we live with can come to mean. We also know that being photographed can feel vulnerable, so we put as much care into the experience as the finished work.
Our aim is simple: to make people feel welcome, understood and beautifully represented.
The Family Behind Folkship
Two perspectives, one studio.
Annie
Photographer. Mother. Founder.
Annie brings warmth, empathy and intuition to every shoot. Her own experiences of pregnancy, birth and motherhood shape the way she photographs women—creating space for them to feel comfortable, confident and genuinely seen.
Danny
Photographer. Father. Founder.
After more than a decade helping businesses build their brands, Danny brings a strong eye for storytelling, composition and how photographs will ultimately be lived with or used. Away from the desk, he’s happiest exploring outdoors with Annie and the boys—finding beaches, woodland walks and places that might become part of a future Folkship story.
How we work
Different strengths.
One shared point of view.
Folkship is shaped by both of us. We plan together, discuss locations and light, refine ideas and make sure every part of the experience feels considered.
For Family Stories, we photograph together—giving us two perspectives while making it easier to stay present with parents and children. Maternity and Early Days sessions are led by Annie, creating a quieter mother-to-mother experience. Work for makers and businesses is shaped around the project, with the right one—or both—of us behind the camera.
However we work, the aim remains the same: beautiful, meaningful photographs and an experience that feels relaxed, personal and unmistakably Folkship.
What guides us
Human. Crafted. Meaningful.
People First
How someone feels matters as much as the finished photographs. We want people to feel welcomed, understood and happier than when they arrived.
Craft with purpose
Natural doesn’t mean unplanned. We think carefully about light, locations, timing, composition and gentle direction—shaping the conditions for honest moments to unfold.
Made to matter
We create photographs to be returned to: lived with in a family home, held onto as children grow, or used to tell the story of meaningful work.
Beyond the Camera
Usually outside. Rarely standing still.
Folkship has grown around our family life rather than apart from it. When we aren’t photographing, editing or planning something new, you’ll usually find us outside with our three boys walking, swimming, exploring or looking for somewhere we haven’t been before.
Those days shape the way we see childhood, family and place. They remind us that the best photographs often begin with curiosity, freedom and simply making time to be together.
Your story
Think we might be your people?
Whether you’re planning time together as a family, marking a changing season of motherhood or looking for photographs that tell the story behind your work, we’d love to hear what you have in mind.
You don’t need to arrive with everything worked out. Start with a conversation, and we’ll help shape what comes next.
