Natural Family Photography in Falmouth & South West Cornwall
Family life moves quickly. The way children hold your hand, the rhythm of walking together, the quiet in-between moments. These are the things we’re drawn to photograph.
Our family sessions take place outdoors, in nature — on beaches, woodland paths, or places that feel meaningful to you. We gently guide when needed, but mostly allow space for things to unfold naturally.
Nothing forced. Nothing overly posed. Just your family, as you are.

Family Photography FAQs — Falmouth & South West Cornwall
Where do family photo shoots take place?
Family sessions are photographed outdoors around Falmouth and across South West Cornwall. We choose locations based on light, season and what suits your family best — often beaches, woodland paths or open coastal landscapes.
We regularly photograph families in Falmouth, Flushing, Mylor Bridge, Helford, Mawnan Smith and Penryn, as well as the surrounding coastline.
What happens during a family photo shoot?
Family photo shoots are relaxed and gently guided. Children are free to move and explore while we shape the light and composition around you.
Rather than stiff posing, the session unfolds naturally — walking, talking and spending time together while we photograph the moments that emerge.
What should we wear for our family photo shoot?
We usually recommend simple, natural clothing in soft colours that work well with the landscape. Avoid large logos or bright patterns.
Comfortable clothing that allows children to move freely works best. If you’re unsure, Annie is always happy to offer suggestions before the session.
What if my children don’t cooperate?
Children rarely behave exactly as expected — and that’s completely fine. Sessions are designed to be flexible and child-led, allowing space for movement, curiosity and play.
Some of the most beautiful photographs often come from these unscripted moments.
When is the best time of day for a family photo shoot?
Most sessions take place in the early morning or later in the evening when the light is soft and natural.
However, we always consider children’s routines when planning your session and will help find a time that works well for your family.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Cornwall weather can change quickly, so we keep a close eye on the forecast in the days before your session.
If the weather looks unsuitable we can simply reschedule. Soft cloud can create beautiful light for photographs, but heavy rain or strong wind is usually a sign to move the session to another day.
Do you photograph families visiting Cornwall on holiday?
Yes — many families visiting Cornwall choose to book a session during their stay.
If you are staying in or around Falmouth, Flushing, Mylor Bridge or the Helford area, we can suggest beautiful nearby locations for a relaxed outdoor photo shoot during your holiday.
How old should children be for a family photo shoot?
Children of any age photograph beautifully. Some families book sessions with toddlers exploring beaches and woodland paths, while others come with older children who enjoy the adventure of being outdoors together.
The most important thing is simply capturing your family as you are now.
When will we receive our photographs?
Your edited gallery is usually delivered within a few weeks of your session. From there you can download your included images and choose any additional photographs or prints.
Can we buy additional photographs?
Yes. Depending on the offering you choose, and you’ll have the option to purchase additional photographs, prints and albums from your gallery.
How far in advance should we book?
Family sessions often book several weeks ahead, particularly during spring, summer and school holidays.
If you already have a date in mind it’s best to get in touch early so we can plan the session around your family.
How do we book a family photo shoot?
Simply get in touch through the contact form or send us a message. We’ll talk through availability, locations and which offering feels right for your family.
How do we know if a Folkship session is right for our family?
If you are drawn to natural outdoor photography and want images that feel relaxed, thoughtful and true to your family, a Folkship session will likely feel like a good fit.
Many families come to us because they want photographs that feel calm and genuine — something a little more considered than quick snapshots on a phone.
If that resonates with you, we would love to hear from you.
